The term “data center” normally creates the thought of high availability. In cabling terms it creates the thought of high density, where footprint space is costly real estate.

The infrastructure design needs to compliment the positioning of the current equipment, while keeping flexible with the knowledge that the equipment could be completely different in the next three years.

Developing a data center strategy is a multi-discipline collaboration between server types, switching fabric, UPS power, HVAC, raised floor systems, and cabinet/rack systems. Integrated planning determines the best cabling methods in a high density environment.
